Photography Group Visit to Northumberland Zoo.

Last May, I had the wonderful opportunity to visit Northumberland Zoo, a hidden gem nestled in the stunning countryside of northern England. As a photography enthusiast, I was eager to capture the diverse array of animals and the natural beauty of the zoo’s surroundings.
Upon arrival, I was immediately struck by the peaceful atmosphere and the well-maintained habitats designed to closely resemble the animals’ natural environments. The zoo is home to a variety of species, from big cats and playful primates to colourful birds and reptiles. Each enclosure offered unique photographic opportunities, allowing me to experiment with different techniques and perspectives.
One of the highlights of my visit was photographing the snow leopards. Their graceful movements and striking fur patterns made for captivating shots. I also enjoyed the challenge of capturing the vibrant plumage of the parrots and the curious expressions of the meerkats. The zoo staff were incredibly knowledgeable and passionate, providing interesting facts that enriched my experience and inspired me to tell a story through my images.
The lighting conditions on that sunny May day were ideal, with soft natural light filtering through the trees. This helped me achieve sharp, well-exposed photos without harsh shadows. I experimented with both close-up portraits and wider shots that included the animals’ surroundings, aiming to convey a sense of their habitat and personality.
Beyond the animals, I took time to photograph the beautiful landscapes and blooming flowers around the zoo, adding a complementary element to my collection.
